DECI-MATE Version 1.01 Release Notes 4-17-91

Thank you for your interest in the Harris' DSP Products.

DECI-MATE is the design and simulation software package for the
Harris HSP43220 Decimating Digital Filter.

The following are installation procedures, known limitations and
release notes to the software. Be sure to print this file out and
leave it with your manual.

Thanks for looking towards Harris to support your Signal Processing
needs.

Installation Procedure

To start using DECI-MATE do the following.

NOTE: The steps in this section assumes you are installing
DECI-MATE from a diskette in drive A: onto a hard drive C:. If you
are using a different configuration, substitute the letter of the
drive where the diskette is located for drive A:. Substitute the
letter for the hard drive for Drive C:.

1. Type:

        C: <Enter>

2. Create a subdirectory to contain the DECI-MATE Programs by
        typing:

        MD \DECIMATE <Enter>

3. Insert the Distribution disk in drive A:

4. Change directories to the DECIMATE directory:
        CD \DECIMATE <Enter>

5. To begin the install process type:
        A:DECINST <Enter>

Files will be decompressed and copied onto your hard drive.

6. To use DECIMATE type:
        DECI <Enter>

7. Follow the tutorial in section 2 of the manual.

                                            ----------------

RELEASE NOTES

This is the second revision of Version 1.0 of DECI-MATE. The only
changes between Version 1.0 and Version 1.01 is in the
documentation. Pages: 2-11,4-3,4-6,4-16,4-17,5-13 appendix C of
the manual and this readme file has been updated.

Known Limitations

FIR DECIMATION RATE

Description
For applications where only the FIR Section of the DDF is used and
DECI-MATE is placed in manual mode with HDF order = 0 and HDF
decimation = 1 the decimation of the FIR section is not checked.

Problem
It is possible to enter system decimation rates higher than 16.
Although DECIMATE will appear to have a valid filter design, the
HSP43220 is not capable of decimation greater than 16 in the FIR
section.

Solution
Be sure to check this parameter and be sure that the total
decimation is not greater than 16 for each design when using manual
mode to bypass the HDF section.

SAMPLING RATE MUST CONFORM TO THE NYQUIST THEOREM.

Description
A check is made in both auto and manual mode to insure that you
satisfy the Nyquist theorem and your output sample rate is more
than twice the sum of the passband and transition band.

Solution
Design the FIR section using another FIR design program which
allows you to break the Nyquist theorem, then import that filter
into DECI-MATE.
PRE-COMPENSATED FIR DESIGNS

Description
When PRECOMP FIR is selected the convergence check is not performed
as it is for a standard FIR design.

Problem
This will cause an invalid pre-compensated FIR design.

Solution
Design the filter using STANDARD FIR first (including GENERATING
the response Curves), then switch to PRECOMP FIR and re-generate
the response curves. This will create a valid design and save the
correct impulse response of the FIR section.

HP LASER Printout

Problem
When a graphics screen has a large amount of data to be printed,
there will be times when the HP Laser Jet will overflow memory and
create poor quality graphical printouts. This is a limitation to
the hardware and cannot be solved using software.

Solution
Load the Epson Print Driver and print, or use DECI-MATE under
Monarch 2.0 and print by using another print driver.
