Following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the Kumamoto Region of Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan on July 28 (JST), Renesas suspended operations at the Kawashiri Factory (Kumamoto city, Kumamoto Prefecture) and Nishiki Factory (Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture), both located near the epicenter.
All employees were safely evacuated, and employee safety has been fully confirmed. No injuries to employees have been reported.
To ensure safety remains our highest priority, we have been conducting inspections within the cleanrooms since this morning while carefully monitoring ongoing aftershocks to assess the condition of buildings and equipment.
At the Nishiki Factory, some ceiling panels have fallen and cracks have been identified in walls. However, there are no issues with utilities such as air conditioning and power supply systems, and the cleanroom environment is being maintained.
At the Kawashiri Factory, cracks in walls and some water leakage have been identified, resulting in a temporary suspension of pure water supply. However, there are no issues with air conditioning or power supply systems, and the cleanroom environment is being maintained.
At both factories, the impact on equipment and work-in-process is currently under investigation.
