描述

The ISL78219EV1Z is an evaluation board to evaluate the ISL78219 step-up voltage regulator. The board is set up to operate with an input voltage from 2.3V to 5.5V and provide an output voltage of 12.0V with a maximum output current of 1.2A. The ISL78219EV1Z evaluation board provides a jumper that allows users to select either the 620kHz or 1.2MHz frequency and to enable or disable the regulator.

The ISL78219 is a high frequency, high-efficiency current mode control non-synchronous step-up voltage regulator operated at a constant PWM switching frequency. It has an internal 4.0A, 120mΩ low-side MOSFET and can deliver high output current and efficiency over 90%. The selectable 640kHz and 1.22MHz switching frequency provides faster transient response and allows the use of a smaller inductor. An external compensation pin gives the user flexibility in setting frequency compensation, allowing the use of low ESR small ceramic output capacitors.

So we're in the power management area in automotive. We have some custom devices we've ultimately built for the automotive industry. And what I mean by custom devices is they have to adhere to the high-voltage specifications, 40V and 60V, but also for the requirements of the vehicles. As an example, we have a device called the ISL78200, that is a buck-boost device. And one of its key features is for start-stop applications.

Within the vehicle, as an example, you have an alarm system, you have an infotainment system, you have rear-view cameras, GPS. You have all those different systems. In this start-stop vehicle, if you stop at a traffic light, there is a heavy load on the battery when the car starts again. If you have a glitch on that power supply, it could switch off your alarm, switch off your GPS, switch off your infotainment system. So our device continues to give an output of 5V, 12V or whatever the output voltage was initially required, even when the power on the input of that device drops all the way down to 1.8V. So again, what that buck-boost does is it maintains the output of the device at 12V no matter what the input voltage is, even if it drops down to 1.8V for a short instance in time as a result of start-stop.

Another area where we have high-efficiency power management is in the infotainment audio area, where we have multiphase boost devices, 6-phase, 4-phase. And, we can gang the devices together to get up to 12-phase, 18-phases. So, if you have an audio system today that is 1.2kW, 1.5kW, which are for larger vehicles, you will need really good efficiency power management devices. ISL78220, ISL78225 support these high-end applications with really good efficiency.
