This application note describes the enhanced serial communications interface (RSCI) module which uses Firmware Integration Technology (FIT). This module uses RSCI to provide Asynchronous, Synchronous, SPI (SSPI), and Manchester support for all channels of the RSCI peripheral.

This application note describes how to write the program to the internal flash memory of the RL78 MCUs that supports the RL78 Protocol D. Serial programming of the RL78 Protocol D is used for writing. There are two modes: Online Mode, in which the host PC sends commands to perform rewriting, and Offline Mode, in which the data to be rewritten is downloaded from the host PC in advance and rewriting is triggered by pressing a switch.
